URARA
A moment to unwind in the city.
Daikanyama's URARA offers a peaceful Showa-era setting for enjoying Shogetsu Himuro natural shaved ice, traditional sweets, and dashi-rich udon on the veranda or garden terrace.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Stepping into URARA from the stylish streets of Daikanyama feels like stepping back into Japan's Showa era. Set in an old-style Japanese house with a garden terrace lined with parasols on clear days, it offers a tranquil outdoor retreat where visitors can catch a gentle breeze away from the city bustle.
A major draw is the kakigori, shaved from natural spring-water ice sourced from Shogetsu Himuro in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture. The signature Organic Blueberry version features fruit from a contracted farm in Shinano, Nagano Prefecture, topped with whole berries and offering a bright sweet-tart aroma. Other options include an Organic Strawberry version made with pulpy syrup and an intense Matcha bowl, with house-cooked azuki sweet beans and condensed milk available as customizable toppings.
For a hearty midday meal, light dashi-based udon bowls make a comforting choice. Options such as soup topped with crispy burdock root tempura provide a warming, satisfying break during a shopping stroll. Quick bites like isobeyaki (grilled mochi wrapped in nori seaweed and seasoned with savory sauce) and grilled onigiri made with organic rice round out the savory lineup.
Traditional and nostalgic desserts are equally well represented, from handmade Classic Pudding and house-cooked oshiruko (sweet red bean soup with mochi) to seasonal imagawayaki known as Seasonal OKURA-yaki. Paired with house-blend coffee made from beans spanning 6 countries, a matcha latte, or a craft soda flavored with Nagano blueberries, it makes an inviting spot to linger.
